WGSDCA Register of Merit Program Rules

Effective January 1, 2003, the WGSDCA will offer a Register of Merit (ROM) program. The ROM is designed to recognize dogs and bitches that produce superior progeny. A ROM dog or bitch does not need to be shown or earn any WGSDCA championship points. The dog is judged solely on the accomplishments of their progeny. The ROM program rules were changed effective January 1, 2008. All dogs that had earned a ROM prior to that date will keep their ROM. Any ROMs awarded after that date must be under the new rules.

The ROM program is designed to encourage breeders to show their pups and to encourage more people to get involved in showing. It is also intended to improve the breed by calling attention to the quality of dogs being produced. Dogs that earn the designation of Register of Merit Dam or Register of Merit Sire are entitled to add the suffix WROM to their registered name as recognition of their achievement.

As of January 1, 2003, the ROM Director will track all show results from member shows and use them to calculate ROM points. Wins from host shows will only be counted towards ROM points if a host show report form is submitted to the Conformation Director. The Conformation Director will then forward the information to the ROM Director who shall have final authority to approve or deny all ROM points.

For wins or championships awarded prior to January 1, 2003, the ROM Director will attempt to award appropriate ROM points. However, it will be the responsibility of the dog owner to provide the ROM Director with names, dates, wins, points awarded and other information needed to prove their dog met the ROM requirements. The ROM designation will be awarded retroactively upon approval of the ROM Director and the National Show and Trial Coordinator.

Register of Merit points are awarded according to the following table. No more than 15 points may be earned from a single dog/bitch.
